Each study session is two months long. Students are assigned to levels and courses based upon the results of placement testing, and are expected to advance one level every session. Classroom instruction is divided into two courses that each meet daily for two hours: Listening/Speaking and Reading/Writing. Classroom instruction is supplemented by afternoon private tutoring sessions and laboratory work.
In the Beginner through Intermediate levels (I, II, III), students learn general English in both classes. At the High Intermediate to Advanced levels, students may choose courses from five different tracks of study: general, academic, business, PreMBA, and American culture.
GENERAL ENGLISH TRACK
General English classes, offered at all six levels, seek to improve English in a great variety of discourse settings. Students develop communicative competence for social and work-related environments through a variety of topics and interactive activities simulating real-life situations.
ACADEMIC TRACK Classes address note taking and test taking skills, academic vocabulary development, critical reading and writing, comprehending academic lectures, library skills, formal compositions, and research papers. Students in the Academic Track may apply for conditional admission to any of our many partner universities.
BUSINESS TRACK Classes provide training in formal business presentations, business negotiations, vocabulary for professional purposes, business correspondence, report and proposal writing, and reading for professional purposes.
PreMBA TRACK The PreMBA Program is for students wishing to pursue MBA studies or graduate studies in business related fields at an American university. Classes in this sixteen week program develop business concepts and vocabulary, academic skills required for MBA programs and an understanding of American business systems. The program also includes intensive GMAT preparation and intensive instruction in identifying and applying to an appropriate MBA program. PreMBA faculty work closely with students to help them apply for strong MBA programs. Campus visits to graduate programs are arranged for students on a case-by-case basis.
